PRINCE GEORGE:

Known as B.C.'s northern capital, Prince George is a bustling city of 75,000 situated at the crossroads of Hwy. 97 (north-south) and Hwy. 16 (east-west), also the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers.

Wood drives the local economy, with forestry, plywood manufacture, 12 sawmills and three pulp mills as major employers and customers.

Other industry includes two chemical plants, an oil refinery, brewery, dairy, machine shops, aluminum boat building, log home construction, value added forestry product and specialty equipment manufacturing.

The University of Northern B.C. is the first new university to be built in Canada in over 25 years. A total of 25 undergraduate programs, 12 masters programs and one PhD program are now offered at UNBC, with a second PhD available soon.

The College of New Caledonia has been serving the region for 30 years with campuses located in Prince George, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, Quesnel, and Mackenzie.

CNC offers a full range of programmes and services for adult learners. College Foundations (adult upgrading), trades, technologies, career/vocational, and academic programmes are all offered.The College has extensive offerings through the Community and Continuing Education and Contract Training Division.

Prince George offers a quality living environment with excellent urban, educational, cultural and recreational facilities, and an interesting mix of lifestyles.

Recreation facilities include 116 playgrounds and parks, plus tennis courts, ice rinks, a swimming pool and an 11 km riverfront trail system. Four provincial parks in the region provide downhill, cross-country and heli-skiing.

Prince George has a WHL hockey team and a 7,000 seat multipurpose arena. An art gallery, craft guild, theatre workshop, symphony, playhouse and 800-seat Vanier Hall provide a cultural base.

Prince George is a well-planned city with both facilities and infrastructures to accommodate future growth. The availability of reasonably priced housing, serviced industrial land and good commercial and retail locations indicate how well it has positioned itself for future growth and development.
