Law Society of Nunavut We are actively exploring long-term planning for bar admissions for Nunavut. We have written to all Law Societies in Canada soliciting information about possible partnerships. We have received expressions of interest from Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba and will be assessing the suitability of any responding Law Society over the next months.
Nunavut Court of Justice The Nunavut Court of Justice covers the entire territory of Nunavut with respect to the provision of court services. As such, the Court travels to approximately 85% of the communities across the territory. The Court does not travel to the smaller communities, (those which do not have RCMP detachments) where very little crime is reported.
Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal The Surface Rights Tribunal is one of the Institutions of Public Government established under the land and resources management regime of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. The Tribunal's role is one of an arbitrator of disputes; a quasi-judicial body, independent of the influence of any party, including government, Inuit organizations and industry.
Canadian Legal Information Institute The Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII) is a not-for-profit organization initiated by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. CanLII's goal is to make primary sources of Canadian law accessible for free on the Internet. CanLII seeks to gather legislative and judicial texts, as well as legal commentaries, from federal, provincial and territorial jurisdictions on a single Web site.
